Rally Day

I serve as a board member on our Protestant Women of the Chapel board. I am the special events and retreats person until next month when the new board takes over. This past Saturday was my big event: Rally Day. Even though turn out was lower than I was hoping it was an excellent day. We had a speaker and workshops on the fruit of the Spirit. Lunch was provided and one of the highlights of the day. Our hospitality chairperson made mini-cheesecakes topped with mixed fruit and chocolate spelling out the words: love, peace, and joy.

All of the teachers and the speaker were women from my community. It's amazing how much untapped resources there are in women in our community. Jobs are hard to come by here. Any job, much less one in your chosen field. So ladies who love, support and move with their husbands are often left in a lurch for a few years. This can be good. It can push them into new avenues and have them doing things they love but would never have normally done. This can also be good for me when people like graphic designer, Jackie, is willing to design my fliers because she doesn't have any other designing to do at the moment.

My community is amazing. So are the gifts that God gave the people who live here.

Typical Tuesday

This morning at PWOC my class was supposed to bring snacks.I've really been jonesing for pumpkin stuff lately. So I scoured the internet for pumpkin recipes with two important criteria: 1.) they must be delicious looking and 2.) they must be made up with things I already have in the house since the commissary is closed Mondays.

I came across the Pioneer Woman's recipe for pumpkin spice muffins. They fit the criteria, so I made them. They tasted delicious even though they came out a little... squat. I dunno why.
Once at PWOC I met up with Jocelyn. Jocelyn's been in the states for 2 months and I've missed her like whoa. She's one of my favorites around here.

Today we had a balloon release outside. Even though childcare is provided this little cutie snuck her way out somehow. I couldn't resist snapping her picture because she's wearing an outfit so cute I wish I had it in my size.

Seriously. Babies in hats. Maybe the cutest thing ever.

This is Rachel, our worship leader. She was a little confused as to why I was taking pictures.

It's ok, Rachel. I get confused sometimes about the things I take pictures of, too.

Ciao, ciao balloons!

Leadership Training

On Saturday I organized a leadership training for Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) where I hold a position on the board.

That sounds a lot fancier than it really is.

PWOC is my refuge. This is the only group of women that I have experienced in my short time living in a military community that have welcomed me without once asking who my husband is. It's full of women that want to get to know me. It's refreshing.

This is me and Lou. She's british. She shared my table at the training. Notice how much bigger my head is than hers? My husband teases me about my "big dome". And then I tickle him until he says I have a normal sized head.

It's a beautiful cycle really.

We had a lot of team building exercises, which were a lot of fun. These five ladies are all acting as one finger on a hand.

It's a lot harder having 5 individuals working together than having 5 members of the same body working together.

A good lesson.

Although their result really wasn't bad.

I can't wait for the kickoff of the new PWOC year on Tuesday, September 8th. If you live in the area, please come!
